Old Bethany Baptist Church at Burnt Corn, Alabama
Bethany Baptist Church was built in 1874 and sits along the Old Federal Road in one of Monroe County’s most picturesque and historic communities — Burnt Corn. Today its old post office, country store, houses, churches and doctor’s office appear frozen in time and are maintained by the J.F.B. Lowrey Trust. Burnt Corn is one of the oldest settlements in Monroe County, and Bethany Baptist has been a part of the community since 1821.

The church is open on special occasions only and is available for group tours
weddings and family reunions. Call 251-575-7433 for information.

“My favorite place in the whole wide world is Burnt Corn. I swear, it’s just the most delightful wide place in the road, and the way the highway bends right there, with the church and the cemetery and the little country store, and those people.”
     — Truman Capote in an interview with Alabama writer Wayne Greenhaw
